Professor Wijbe Th. Nauta (1913-1986) has to be regarded as the father of Pharmacochemistry. He coined the term to distinguish it from the the more medical oriented medicinal chemistry. In all his work, Professor Nauta has emphasized the importance of the chemistry involved in the biological activity of compounds.

After the life of research (click here for a short Curriculum Vitae), Professor Nauta passed away in 1986. From means received from his widow the Prof. Dr. W. Th Nauta Stichting was founded; this foundation enabled the EFMC to award the bi-annual W. Th. Nauta prize, presented for the first time in 1992.
